Burnley Community Alcohol Service provides a range of interventions
including advice, information, assessment, one-to-one sessions and
a range of group activities. We have a Community Detox Nurse
who provides a home detox service for those who have developed a
dependency upon alcohol and need assistance in coming off alcohol
safely. For people with more complex needs, we are able to
refer directly to in-patient detoxification facilities. In
addition we work in partnership with social workers from Lancashire’s
Social Services Substance Misuse team on behalf of clients who require
a more intensive longer term response and need to access residential
rehabilitation units or structured day care programmes.
First of all you will be offered a triage assessment. At that appointment you will meet with one of our project workers and look at what you want and what your needs are. Together, we will help you develop a plan which will identify how you are going to address your alcohol problem by setting some targets and by outlining what you need to do in order to achieve them. You will be appointed a key-worker who will support you in fulfilling that plan by providing one-to-one sessions and/or by helping you to access sessions in our group work programme. We may also sign-post you to other agencies who may be able to help you around other issues you need to address.
Our group work programme offers a menu of options which provides
support and structured work-shops on developing a range of skills
and knowledge. We also provide Auricular Acupuncture. For
people who are concerned about somebody else’s drinking we have a
Family Support Group which meets once a week.
All group work sessions take place in a supportive, alcohol free environment
in which you can feel safe.
This service is based within designated primary health care surgeries
in Burnley. Clinics are held on a weekly basis offering one-to-one
appointments with one of our project workers. Referral into this
service is either via a health care professional based at your surgery
or through Bull Street.
