We have two centres in the Borough of Wigan, both conveniently located
in the town centres of Wigan and Leigh and a short walk from the bus
stations.
The Wigan centre is located behind Wigan Parish Church, which is a
short walk from the train station;
The Leigh centre is next door to the main post office
Unfortunately, there is no wheelchair access to the building in Wigan,
but we have excellent wheelchair access at our Leigh site and may
also be able to arrange a home visit for those with access difficulties.
Our service is free to anyone over 18 who lives in the Wigan area and has problems with alcohol or drug misuse, or is worried about a family member or friend.
Monday to Friday: 9:15am to 5:00pm
Wednesday Evenings: 5:00pm to 8:00pm (Leigh)
Thursday Evenings: 5:00pm to 8:00pm (Wigan)
First we find out what you want and need. Then, together, we develop
a plan to tackle your concerns and work out goals for your treatment.
This plan might include individual counselling sessions or joining
a selection of groups within our project. Look at the services below.
Our staff work in the Wigan and Leigh centres, plus GP surgeries
and health centres to offer shared care in assessing, screening and
supporting patients with an alcohol problem. We provide help to those
in the early stages of dependence to break the habit and refer dependant
drinkers in need of in-patient or home detoxification to the local
Substance Misuse Service. We also provide alcohol support groups every
week at our Wigan and Leigh sites.
Getting into trouble with the law is often triggered or exacerbated
by a drug problem. Our non-judgemental teams give intensive support
in custody suites, courts, probations offices, and prisons and in
the community. Preparing for life at the end of a sentence is crucial,
so we work with prisoners before and after discharge: advising on
housing, training, help to get settled in support programmes and looking
for work as they resume life "outside".
Sessions take place in a supportive and comfortable environment in which you can feel secure. People with drug problems, and others who are concerned, can join a wide range of groups - Therapeutic, Educational and Social - that are appropriate to their individual needs.
Bridging the Gap is a training programme designed to train people in the Wigan and Leigh community. It offers an opportunity for people to develop skills and training in the substance misuse field. It is supported by a six month placement with a local organisation.
How Bridging the Gap helped us begin our lives againADS centres offer an exciting range of Therapeutic and Complimentary therapies, educational training and social activities. Ring us or come and see us for details.
